I’ve been teaching for the district since 2012 and had reached Step 6 a couple of years ago. I am now eligible for the new Step 7 in Fall 2019 and will notice a nice bump in my hourly wage. Part-time faculty who are already at Step 6 don’t even have to apply for the step increase. The new step will appear in Fall 2019 payroll.
I will also benefit from the new rules regarding column increases. I earned a Master’s in Management in 2011 but have been working on a Certificate in Project Management for the past couple of years. I’m developing ENGL C103 in the Canvas LMS), and the experience of taking online and in-person classes has made me a better instructor and course designer.
With the newly negotiated column increases designed to recognize faculty’s continuing pursuit of knowledge and experience, I am eligible for an increase to Column II with my post-Master’s credits.
Part-time faculty members at the Coast are fortunate to have leaders who value our academic resilience and ensure we are recognized and compensated for our achievements. Our union leaders work hard to protect our rights and reward our efforts. By joining the union, part-time faculty will help assure positive outcomes in our careers. I am grateful for my membership and our union leadership.
