Board Approves next GWC President Tim McGrath

COSTA MESA, CA – After a nationwide search, the Coast Community College District’s Board of Trustees has selected Tim McGrath to serve as Golden West College’s next president. McGrath’s contract was officially approved at the March 21 Board of Trustees meeting.
For the last nine years, McGrath served as the Vice President of Instruction at San Diego Mesa College which is in the San Diego Community College District with Miramar, San Diego City College and San Diego Continuing Education. McGrath’s sentiments are that San Diego Mesa College is the leading college of equity and excellence and that he has been fortunate enough to have been involved in a number of creative and innovative programs that have impacted student success.
“Tim McGrath is an experienced leader who brings a strong record of innovation to Golden West College,” said Coast Community College District Chancellor, John Weispfenning, Ph.D. “I’m looking forward to having Tim as a member of our leadership team.”
Golden West College is highly regarded for academic quality and innovation. From its earliest years, the College has been recognized for its pioneering leadership in designing learning-centered programs and services for its student body, and continues in that tradition to this day. Located in the coastal community of Huntington Beach, Golden West College is regarded as one of the most beautiful campuses in Southern California.
The College provides an intellectually and culturally stimulating learning environment for its diverse student population—demonstrated by its commitment to innovation that embraces demographic and technological changes. McGrath will take over for Wes Bryan, who is retiring in June, after leading the College for 40 years, serving as president for 13 years since 2005.
