It is with great sadness that I inform you that Ted Barnes, a part-time faculty member with over 40 years’ service to the College, passed away onFebruary 26, 2019.

Ted Barnes was a favorite of students and staff alike.  He taught philosophy and psychology courses through distance learning since 1977 and with military and contract education since 1989.  The staff frequently recommended that new students enroll in one of Ted Barnes’ classes because they knew new students would enjoy his class.  Ted understood how difficult it was for some of our students to start on a college pathway, and he was always kind and encouraging.

Ted was one of the early users of our videos within Canvas, and he helped pave the way for new faculty to utilize Coast Telecourses/Coast Learning Systems resources.

Ted was passionate about helping students and gave them the confidence to succeed.  He was brilliant, patient, kind and always willing to adopt a new perspective in order to solve a problem.  Although we are sad to learn of his passing, because he was a Coastline original, we can take comfort knowing that he did what he loved – introducing generations of students to academia –up until the very end.
